There's one thing you can definitely say about the Samsung Innov8, that you can't about the Sony Ericsson C905 [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is that it's a smartphone. Because it's based on Symbian S60 (just like Nokia's Nseries mobile phones), that brings power, over and above the 8 megapixel of the Samsung Innov8's camera. We're talking raw processing power, and the ability to add on lord knows how much third party software, so that you can basically get your mobile phone to do anything you want. Yep, no doubt about it, the Samsung Innov8 is very powerful. There's a downside, though. Combining the world of 8 megapixels with the world of Symbian mobile phones has made the Samsung Innov8 big. Ok, we're not talking the size of Burma, here, but it's still noticeably bigger and chunkier than the Sony Ericsson C905. I also say that the Sony Ericsson C905 is a better-looking phone. So, to answer the original question in the title: quite simply, no, the Samsung Innov8 will not knock the C905 off its perch, because in my opinion (and this seems to be backed up by how many were sold in the UK last week), it's the superior phone.
In context - how Sony Ericsson more or less built the world of camera phones
Samsung Innov8 - the smarter alternative?
It's rather apt, when you think about it, that Sony Ericsson should be the ones leading the way in the coming paradigm shift in camera-equipped mobile phones. Come on, it was them who started it all, long ago, in 2002. Let's remember, they were the first company to unleash a mobile phone with a camera in it, in the British marketplace. That handset was the Sony Ericsson P800, but it didn't really hit the mass market in the way that Sony Ericsson wanted, as it was a really high-end smartphone. But, their most iconic device ever was soon to hit the market, and that one DID get huge mass market appeal. It was the Sony Ericsson T610, and it entirely altered the mobile landscape. Here was a device that stood proudly over the other mobile phones around it. It was compact, it was slim, and people went MAD for it. The key thing was... the Sony Ericsson T610 also had an integrated camera, and that it was really the first phone to go to that wider market, and make people say, 'Wait a sec [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], we actually do want cameras in our mobile phones!'
Or is it? Does the world of high-end camera mobile phones really belong to the Sony Ericsson C905, or is it about to get a kicking from the Samsung Innov8?
There's no denying power, and something is very clear: the Sony Ericsson C905's got loads and loads more sheer power than any other mobile phones you can get in the UK. How come? Well, it's the first camera phone to be announced in the UK with an 8 megapixel camera. Yup. 8. That's a disturbingly high pixel resolution [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], and it means that with the Sony Ericsson C905, you have the ability to take the absolute sharpest photos you've ever seen, from any camera-equipped mobile phone, in the history of everything ever. Oh, and on top of that, remember that Sony Ericsson have packed it full of Cyber-Shot brilliance, and that will make the photos coming out of it so much more vibrant. Add in a stunning multimedia player, WiFi, HSDPA and integrated GPS, and you have to come to the conclusion that the Sony Ericsson C905 is, quite simply, the king of the hill!
Sony Ericsson pretty much invented the camera phone, and they've now taken it to new heights with the 8 megapixel Sony Ericsson C905... but this high-tech shooter about to get knocked off its perch by the Samsung Innov8?

Nowadays, the market has diverged, into low-end devices, and high-end camera-equipped mobile phones; and Sony Ericsson want to rule both!
Sony Ericsson C905 - the ultimate camera phone?
