Positive Psychology is the scientific study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals and communities to thrive. Started by Martin Seligman, former president of American Psychological Association, in 1998, this field was founded on the belief that people want to lead meaningful and fulfilling lives, to cultivate what is best within them, and to enhance their experiences of love, work and play.

Dr. Martin E. P. Seligman notes that prior to World War II psychologists looked at factors that helped people lead productive and fulfilling lives.
