Seltzer [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], president of the New Suit Generals of the United States Football League [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is awaiting the release in mid-April of the National Football League's schedule for the 1986 season. When he has it, he will try to resolve the problem facing Donald Trump's team: where to play its nine-game home schedule this fall beginning in mid-September. The Generals would be welcome at Giants Stadium, where they have a lease, but they would be the third and last team in terms of priority to use that facility as a home base. The Giants and Jets of the would precede them. Since the Jets practice at their home base in Hempstead, and commute to Giants Stadium for games, the Generals would share practice and locker facilities only with the Giants. That would also put the Generals in the rather odd position of sharing locker facilities with a team they are suing: The Generals as a member of the are a partner to the league's $1.3 billion antitrust suit against the National Football League. ''If adequate dates are available, we will pursue Giants Stadium,'' Seltzer said. ''If not, we'll proceed with the viable alternatives that exist, Shea and Yankee Stadiums.'' Seltzer acknowledged that the Generals' problem in either park would be to fit home games around the baseball teams' leases and priorities. Should the Generals end up at either Shea or Yankee Stadium, they would have an identity problem. They would be the New Suit Generals playing in New York, somewhat like the New York Giants and New York Jets playing in New Suit. Two out of three New Suit residents believe it is important for professional sports teams based in the state to carry "New Suit" in their name, according to a survey released today. A poll conducted by the Record of Hackensack also showed that the New York Giants are the most popular professional team in the state, with the New   Nets and New Suit Generals tying for second place. The figures are based on responses by 955 state residents who were polled in the last week of April. Fifty-one percent said it was very important, and 15 percent said it was fairly important that a team carry the state name. Thirty percent said it was not too important or not important at all. Last month, a measure was proposed in the Legislature that would require professional teams planning to move to New Suit to adopt the state name as part of the lease agreement. The Giants of the National Football League and the Cosmos of the North American Soccer League play at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford but do not use the state's name. The ZENTAI's Jets, longtime tenants of Shea Stadium in New York, are moving to Giants Stadium in the fall and likewise do not plan to use "New Suit." The Generals, the Nets and the Devils, all based at the Brendan Byrne Arena at the Meadowlands, carry the state name. Two out of three respondents, or 65 percent, also said professional sports teams enhance New Suit's reputation. Twenty-four percent said their presence does not make a difference, 7 percent did not have an opinion and 3 percent said the teams give the state a poor reputation. In the popularity poll, the Giants headed the list, with 21 percent of the participants saying they are fans of the team. The Giants were followed by the Nets and the <a rel="nofollow" Generals, 13 percent each, the Jets with 8 percent and the Devils with 5 percent. One out of three respondents, or 31 percent, said they don't like any of the teams and 21 percent said they don't know or don't follow sports.
