Why they killed themselves, Ka asks. Some say they are protesting opposition the headscarves ban, others say it is because they are beaten at home. The Islamists, however, consider the girls who commit suicide not even Muslims, since the Koran forbids the faithful to take their own lives.
The poet Ka is the novels cardinal persona. He is an taught, westernized Turk from a middle-class home in Istanbul. Everyone in Kars considers him a non-believer, but he is in doubt, occasionally he sees God in the snow, sometimes while he is prose his poems.

Pamuk also answered the success of Kemal Ataturks modern Westernized Turkey, which seems to be a reflection of Russia to some extent. He quotes an epigraph from Fyodor Dostoyevsky's The Brothers Karamazov [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Well [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], then, eradicate the human, curtail them, coerce them to be silent, because the European enlightenment is extra momentous than folk.
Modern Turkey
Trapped in Kars
Nobel Winner Orhan Pamuk’s “Snow is a deep, soul-searching, philosophical novel. It is set in the early 1990s in Kars, in the distant east of Turkey, near to Armenia. The novel shows the complexities and the embarrassments of modern Turkey including the conflict between secularism and Islamism, penury, headscarf ban and unemployment.
Snow manages to give voice to everyone involved, both the liberals and the fundamentalist, secular and Islamists. While, the secularists do no ambition look Islamists as people beings, yet as fanatics, the Islamists, who would like to portray themselves as idealists, penetrate the secularists as heretics.
Ka returns to Istanbul as his mother's funeral, behind alive in Frankfurt, Germany because more than a decade. He voyages to Kars on a journalistic assignment from a secularist weekly, to cover the civic referenda and an obvious suicide epidemic among the Muslim women there. Ka has variant cause for being in Kars, he wants to meet Ipek, the love of his life.

Snow offers breathtaking portrait of Kars and its residents, who are penniless but not fatuous. For the three days, the town is cut off along massive snow. Trapped in Kars, Ka goes deep to know Turkey, which seems unable to know itself, haunted by its past and divided over its hereafter.
Losing What They Are
In Kars, things are twisted. The regional paper prints news before it happens. The residents watch TV often, even when there is nothing on. Kas days are nothing but normal. While he is in Kars, he witnessed the political assassinate of the brain of a institute who has tried to ban pupils from wearing headscarves. Later [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], a activity about a girl who burns her headscarf, cried My Fatherland or My Scarf corners into a bloody coup.
Ipeks sister, Kadife, the governor of the headscarf girls who have been barred from the secular university for covering their hair gives him the perfect reply, While men kill themselves when they have naught left to lose, women commit suicide to dodge losing what they are. (p.115)
As Ka investigates the epidemic of suicides among the town's young women, forbidden to dress headscarves in educate, his discoveries shock him. The thing that shocked and scared Ka was the path these girls had killed themselves: abruptly, without ritual alternatively advising, in the midst of their daily customaries. (p.13)
Snow is a go of art novel and an important perusing. It is as many approximately politics and society ills as it is almost love and enthusiasm.
