The wildly popular Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were named after H.B. Reese. He was employed by the Hersey Company but left in 1923 only to return 40 years later and put his name on Reese’s Pieces.

Famous Sandwiches
In 1924 a chef in a restaurant in Tijuana created a salad that still bears his name. In the 1830’s a health movement was started that focused on sunshine, natural foods and plenty of grains. Sylvester Graham was a part of this movement. He wanted to ban meat, alcohol, sex and white bread. In the study, Sex, Diet and Debility, historian Stephen Nissenbaum stated that graham crackers were manufactured by Russell Trall to honor Sylvester Graham
In the 1930’s a comic strip, Blondie, drawn by Chic Young, introduced America to a young married couple called the Bumsteads who shared troubles they experienced. The male figure Dagwood was often observed eating a huge sandwich piled high with meat. Thus the Dagwood sandwich was born.
The Rueben sandwich which consists of sauerkraut, corned beef on rye bread with Russian dressing and topped with Swiss cheese is often a favorite at local delis. Time magazine in 1986 credited the Rueben as being invented by an Omaha grocer Reuben Kay as a treat for his poker pals.
In 1896 candy lovers were treated to a tiny roll of chocolate. The candy was named after Leo Hirschfield’s daughter Clara. His nickname for her was “Toot
Eggs Benedict were created by a New York City chef from Delmonico’s for patrons named Mr. and Mrs. Le Grand Benedict who reportedly wanted to try something “new”. The chef put ham and poached eggs on the top of an English muffin and smothered it with Hollandaise sauce. It is still served in fancy restaurants today.
It is 1978 and two friends opened up an ice cream parlor in an old broken down gas station in Burlington Virginia. Over 30 years later people still love “Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream. Is Baskin Robbins a real person or maybe two people? It is amazing how many of the foods consumed are named after people.
The Baby Ruth candy bar was not named for the famed baseball player Babe Ruth but for President Grover Cleveland’s’ daughter
The Mars Company named one of their most popular candy bars after the Alexandre Dumas’s 1844 Novel. They chose the name because the candy bar originally was packaged in three sections, so The Three Musketeers bar was born.
Many people might know that the sandwich was invented by John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich [link widoczny dla zalogowanych] so that he could eat while playing cards, but the Reuben and the Dagwood sandwiches were also named after people.
