Builders of Adytum
Case said he received a phone call from Rakcozi. According to Michael Bender of ARCANE-ARCH, it was the same voice who had instructed him over the years, and then met him in at the Hotel Roosevelt in New York for three weeks of instruction in "the next incarnation of the Qabalistic Way of Return."
Case Meets with Master Rakoczi
While in Chicago in 1909, Case was approached by a stranger named Dr. Fludd who called him by name. The stranger said that they were both taught by the Master of Wisdom; he said that he had been told to find Case to let him know that he was at a crossroads. He could continue his musical career and find success or devote himself to a harder path in serving humanity by helping to usher in the Aquarian Age.
In 1918,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Case met Michael Whitty, the Praemonstrator of the Thoth-Hermes Temple of the Golden Dawn (Alpha et Omega), one of the many splinter groups of the original Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn. Case joined the order and advanced quickly, becoming the Praemonstrator within a year. However,. Case became uncomfotable, as did A.E. Waite, with Enochian practices, thinking they were denomic. Years later when he created his own order, the Builders of Adytum (BOTA), he forbade the use of this "angelic language."
Rivalries with other Golden Dawn members ensued. He was expelled from the temple in 1921 for his interest in sex magic. For Case,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], sex magic was not an external pracitce, but one in which, as in controlling kundalini energy, occurred internally,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], creating magic in its most powerful context.
Over the years, Case claimed he was in contact with Master R, also known as Master Rakoczi, or the Count Saint Germain. Saint Germain was born in 1735 and legends say that he was immortal, or that he was the reincarnation of Joseph, the foster father of Jesus, Merlin the magician, Roger Bacon, Christian Rosenkreuz of Germany,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Christopher Columbus and Francis Bacon. Many occultist such as Helena Blavatsky claimed him as an ascended master.
Paul Foster Case was a self-taught scholar whose books on occult practices are viewed as some of the most profound works ever written on the subject.
Case settled in Los Angeles, where he founded a new hermetic school called the Builders of Adytum. Case decided on a revolutionary change and began to offer instruction in correspondence courses at reasonable rates. Secrets that had supposedly been passed down to only a select few for thousands of years were offered to anyone w

Case bought every available book on Tarot nd became an expert on the major arcana. Before he was 21, he was widely published in occult journals. He claimed was being instructed by an "inner hearing."
Case was born near Rochester, New York in 1884. He was a voracious reader and it's said that he experienced episodes of lucid dreaming. When he was seven, he exchanged letters with Rudyard Kippling. Kippling wrote of his own "fourth dimensional" experiences and encouraged him to pursue the paranormal.

Case and the Question of 'Where Do Playing Cards Come From?'
By the age of 16, Case supported himself by playing piano and doing card tricks in Vaudeville. In 1901, at at a charity event in Rochester, he met Claude Bragdon, a wealthy man who had serious interests in theosophy. Bragdon sought him out and asked, "Where do you think playing cards came from?" This altered the course of Case's life.
