Reservations are essential and they only take telephone bookings after 4pm between Tuesdays and Thursdays and after 12 noon on Fridays and Saturdays. Who said the British were a race of eccentrics?

Better than the usual Chinese, this is an award winning Cantonese restaurant in Manchester’s Chinatown. Beautifully simple décor is set over several floors, giving a sense of intimacy. Choose from a quick lunch to a full “banquet” of 4 courses which starts at £29.50. (US$60) Open for lunch and dinner, but phone to confirm.
It’s on the pricey side with a 3 course dinner menu at £47.50. (US$96) (Lunches start at £22.00 / US$44) ) The menu changes regularly, but for an example of the type of food, this fish dish was recently available :

Not in Manchester city centre, so you need a car to get there, but worth it for a special occasion, and you will be expected to be smartly dressed. That means collar and tie for the guys. Traditional British Food made far more interesting is the best way to describe their menu. For example, Black Pudding in Beer Batter with homemade Apple & Sarsaparilla Chutney. For dessert there is Sweet Ginger Beer Jelly with Rhubarb Ripple Ice Cream and a Cardamom Biscuit.
Located in Manchester city centre, with its own parking, Albert's Shed has shiny modern décor (despite the name) with an Italian themed menu. Lunch time pizzas start at £7.00. (US$14 ) Chicken [link widoczny dla zalogowanych], duck, steak and panfried lobster (£20 US$ 40) are also available. Delicious desserts are all £4.50. (US$9 ) Try the rhubarb and lavender sponge pudding for a taste sensation.
Tourists from the US will find eating out in restaurants in the UK is fairly expensive, especially in the larger towns and cities. However, visitors from London and other south-eastern regions of the UK will find prices lower in Manchester restaurants whilst the quality of the food is just as good.
For fine food in atmospheric surroundings, this restaurant guide has it all.
Manchester offers a variety of restaurants serving everything from the best American burgers (Gourmet Burger kitchens in Spinningfields) Russian Food complete with flavoured vodka and entertainment (St Petersburg restaurant, Sackville Street) to tapas and other Spanish food (Grado in New York Street, Piccadilly).
