As stated in Tintin in America, Tintin is a 'world famous reporter', working in the field of investigative journalism for an unspecified publication. Despite his young age, Tintin is often assigned to report on overseas events, such as the Japanese invasion of China and mafia activity in Chicago.
As his loyal companion, Snowy has saved Tintin's life on a number of occasions, usually helping him escape from traps or seeking outside help. Snowy has also been known to go to such extremes as diving to the depths of the ocean to rescue a drowning Tintin (Tintin in America).
"But at home they call me Tintin"
Tintin's actual age is never mentioned. Throughout the television series, several characters have referred to him as 'kid' or an 'adolescent', suggesting he is most likely aged in his teens. Coinciding with his first appearence, Tintin's passport states his birth year as 1929.
Snowy, a wire fox terrier, acts as Tintin's faithful sidekick and best friend. It is assumed by their seemingly unbreakable bond that Snowy has been with Tintin since they were both very young. Snowy's first appearance was alongside Tintin in the original 1929 comic series and, as mentioned in The Crab with the Golden Claws, is from Brussels in Belgium.
Along with his ability to escape from elaborate traps, Tintin also possesses a number of other physical and mental strengths. Despite his physique, he is incredibly strong, able to knock out his larger enemies with a single punch. Tintin also displays strong abilities when it comes to swimming and rock climbing. He is also qualified to drive cars, trucks, speedboats and can pilot planes.
Tintin never speaks of his childhood or even of a family. His dog, Snowy,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], is his main travelling companion, appearing alongside Tintin throughout all his adventures. Snowy, along with Tintin's other comrades Captain Haddock,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], Professor Calculus, Thompson and Thompson and Doctor Sarcophagus,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], appear to be the closest thing Tintin has to a real family.

However, Tintin does exhibit a few weaknesses. Sometimes, he over-thinks the situations he finds himself in, blinding him against his surroundings and often leads to his capture by the antagonists. Opposed to this, Tintin has been known to act on impulse.
This quote from Cigars of the Pharoah creates mystery when it comes to Tintin's actual name. It is assumed that it is his christian name, although there is no evidence suggesting that it is not his middle name or his surname. It is widely thought that Tintin is a nom-de-plume used by the character to protect his actual identity while researching and writing his articles. However, there is a Belgian phrase 'faire tintin' which translates to 'to go without'- perhaps Herge designated the name Tintin to the character to make reference to his

Although Tintin enjoys his work, it often presents a threat to his life. Antagonists devise plots against him personally and he has been kidnapped,[link widoczny dla zalogowanych], gassed and brought close to death on a number of occasions. However, Tintin's experiences have obviously contributed to his resourcefulness- he is often seen escaping from traps in a matter of minutes.
Created by Herge, the beloved children's animated personality Tintin first appeared in the publication Le Petit Vingtieme, a Belgian youth magazine in 1929. Despite his fame, very little is known about Tintin- this is his character profile.
