Better than the usual Chinese, this is an award winning Cantonese restaurant in Manchester’s Chinatown. Beautifully simple décor is set over several floors, giving a sense of intimacy. Choose from a quick lunch to a full “banquet” of 4 courses which starts at £29.50. (US$60) Open for lunch and dinner, but phone to confirm.

Not in Manchester city centre, so you need a car to get there, but worth it for a special occasion, and you will be expected to be smartly dressed. That means collar and tie for the guys. Traditional British Food made far more interesting is the best way to describe their menu. For example, Black Pudding in Beer Batter with homemade Apple & Sarsaparilla Chutney. For dessert there is Sweet Ginger Beer Jelly with Rhubarb Ripple Ice Cream and a Cardamom Biscuit.
Located in Manchester city centre, with its own parking, Albert's Shed has shiny modern décor (despite the name) with an Italian themed menu. Lunch time pizzas start at £7.00.
