Samantha Eggar’s portrayal of the desperate Miranda is undeniably one of the unforgettable aspects of the film. Her in-vain attempts to reason with Frederick add to the viewers’ frustrations as we continue to watch and realize with horror that her hopeless fate is inevitable.

The romantic pin-up image of the early sixties due to the success of Billy Budd, Stamp’s switch in acting medium proved his resilience and diversity as an actor. Unfortunately he would find his work inverting in the seventies from leading man to supporting roles but his performance of Frederick Clegg is one of the most frighteningly disturbed villains since Psycho’s Norman Bates.
I recently had the unpleasant experience of being invited to watch the play The Collector. My poor sister who invited me ended up apologizing profusely to me for the rest of the evening when it was over. Not only was it the heaviest, most uncomfortable melodramatic claptrap that I had ever seen performed on a stage but I didn’t feel the slightest bit of empathy for any of the leads.
Wyler’s choice of a very different medium of film to work with makes the film ever more appealing. When considering his previous successes which include The Best Years of Our Lives and Ben Hur, The Collector offered a very fresh medium to work with and proved his ability to produce a ghastly and claustrophobic situation to which there is no escape. By ending the film on a negative note Air Max Lebron, The Collector provided a dark, chilling yet blatant new way for British film to portray reality – a reality for women that was then and still is, a little too close to home.
The most terrifying aspect of the story is that Miranda does not escape, and the fact that Wyler never introduces us to her family emphasises her isolation within the situation. However the greatest strength of the overall film is undoubtedly Terence Stamp in his chillingly magnetic performance of Frederick, a psychologically warped and socially inept loner air jordan spizike, who foolishly believes that the only way to gain Miranda’s affections is to keep her prisoner until she falls in love with him.
Based on the book by John Fowles, the story is told through the eyes of Frederick Clegg (Terence Stamp), a lonely, sexually frustrated butterfly collector who has recently won the football polls. The only problem is that now he wants to share it, as well as his life, with pretty art student Miranda Grey (Samantha Eggar) who has unknowingly caught his eye, thus fuelling his desire to add her to his collection of beautiful things.
However, weeks later I was watching TV one day when I happened to see that the film The Collector would be playing late that night. I, being the person that I am, was undoubtedly most curious and so I stayed up to watch. Well I am so very glad that I did.

After he kidnaps her and keeps her in the cellar of an old Victorian house, she tries multiple ways of escaping air jordans spizike, including seduction, but to no avail. As her terror mounts, so does her horrifying realization that the only way of escaping is by dying.
