A producers cut of this film is hard to get a hold of, but it does exist and proves to be a much better film. The cut is rough and under produced but it helps to maintain a fluid story and explain all the necessary details. The endings are entirely different in each Jordan Alpha 1, the theatrical ending being a bit more disturbing simply because it is the last scene of Donald Pleasence to exist.
Summing Up - Halloween: The Curse Of Michael Myers
Audiences finally receive an explanation of why Myers kills his family with this film, but the explanation can get confusing. Jamie Lloyd is apparently captured by an ancient Druid cult and is forced to give birth to a baby jordan 11 xi, whom is to be a sacrifice to Michael Myers. Myers is cursed by Thorn, a constellation which appears during Halloween and symbolizes madness. The Druid cult worships Thorn and are basically the gate keepers for whoever holds the curse of the Thorn. Jamie escapes and hides her child and subsequently is killed by Myers. Now Michael is after the child and anyone who stands in his way, including Tommy Doyle and Dr. Loomis.
The Curse Of Post Production Editing - Halloween 6 Thoughts and Feelings
Halloween 6 is a much darker film than previous efforts, featuring graphic death scenes, cult rituals and dialogue delivered quite stoically. This however doesn't save the film from obscurity. The original cut proves to be confusing, jumbled and incoherent. The plot is poorly explained, the villains of the cult are barely introduced or explained and Dr. Loomis is under used.
If at all possible, find the producers cut as it is leagues above this mess of a film. The theatrical release has its merits, it's dark and has its share of intense moments but without a stable plot it simply falls flat. From here on out the Halloween series would struggle to find out what exactly what it is trying to be.
At this point in the franchise they were done numbering their titles. What should have been called Halloween 6 out of convenience for uninformed audiences was instead called Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. This film was plagued by production issues, not only going through eleven different drafts of the script but also dealing with the heart breaking loss of Donald Pleasence. After the actor's death a lot of changes and reshoots were done - changing the plot and tone of the entire film.
The acting is a bit odd in this film as well. A lot of the lines are spoken with such a seriousness that it's almost comical. It's hard to understand what the directer was going for exactly. There is simply too much to keep track of and it makes for a movie that feels rushed and confusing.
