There was a crackling sound and then line went dead. About a minute later my phone was ringing. “Tony’s fired.” The words hung in the air. “We’ll call you in a few days.” The line went dead again.
What did I do? I did what any writer worth his salt would do. I ate an entire large pizza and got absolutely stone cold drunk.
Then, in July of 2003, fully two years after Tony Kaye entered my life, a ray of hope cast its light on my career once again. After seeing Terminator 3, I suddenly had a vision for Terminator 4. I thought the idea was brilliant. That night I couldn’t sleep, and the following morning I got my manager on the phone and told him he had to get me in to see Andy Vajna, the producer of the Terminator series. Being a personal friend of my manager’s,Jordan Retro 6, Mr. Vajna agreed to the meeting. It seemed I might have a little heat left after all.
It bounced.

The next several months were hell. My money dried up, bill collectors started calling and I continued to eat myself into a stupor. Another company eventually picked up Redliners, but it seemed as if the dye had been cast. The life had flashed out of my script with the image of Marlon Brando feeding a pet monkey that ran the world.
On July 7th, I woke up with the worst hangover of my life
While the check was eventually funded, three months later the option lapsed and was not renewed. My star had not only fallen, it had crashed and burned, burying itself like a meteorite under a fresh mound of dirt. The only thing that was missing was a headstone: Here lies the career of Jeff Sherwood…
As a result of John’s death, Enemy Within suddenly went from being a “Go” film to nothing at all. The producers had been depending on John’s name to close some much needed overseas financing and his death, coupled with their other financial problems lead them to let their option on EW lapse. Now the only hope I had left for my career lay in the hands of the one man I couldn’t even stand to be around: Tony Kaye.

Despite my previous experience with Tony, I was desperate to get the project back on track. I told myself I’d do whatever it took to make it happen. Then the day finally came. The conference call was scheduled. The operator called out all of our names in a roll call and the development process started again. Then Tony opened his mouth. “I’ve just reconciled my differences with Marlon Brando, and I’d like to write a part in the movie for Marlon where Marlon has a pet monkey. At the end of the movie,Jordan 16.5 Team, I think the monkey should become the most powerful person in the world.”
Two days later I found myself seated, alone, in the huge conference room of C2 pictures. Behind and above me hung a gigantic oil painting given to Mr. Vajna by one of my idols, Sylvester Stallone. I was literally in the company of legends. That euphoric enthusiasm returned. This pitch was an opportunity of a lifetime, and I was ready.
About a month later the producers of Redliners finally convinced Tony to give rewriting the script with me another shot. Unfortunately, Tony was leaving the country for a commercial shoot and would not be available for the creative conference call for another month. So, we waited.
Surprisingly enough,Jordan 11, the producers actually did call a few days later. “Your option is up at the end of September. We’d like to extend it for three months for I agreed. Sure enough, on September 30th a check for $7,500.00 arrived.
